Knowledge Graph for Construction

A knowledge graph represents information as a network of connected entities and relationships. In construction, the entities are things like buildings, rooms, wall types, specifications, code sections, products, and people. The relationships capture how they connect: this wall separates these two rooms, this specification section applies to this wall type, this code section requires this fire rating for this occupancy separation.

The knowledge graph enables reasoning that simple document search cannot. When someone asks "what fire rating is required for the wall between the restaurant and the office?", the knowledge graph traces the relationships: restaurant → Group A-2 occupancy, office → Group B occupancy, separation between A-2 and B → IBC Table 508.4 → 1-hour or 2-hour depending on the occupancy separation approach. This multi-step reasoning through connected information is what makes knowledge graphs powerful for code compliance and cross-document queries.
