IFC Room Schedule Generator — Space Data from BIM

The Nomic agent pulls room and space data directly from the IFC model — names, numbers, areas, level assignments, and space types. Generate a room schedule for any level, calculate total net area by space type, or check occupancy loads against program requirements in seconds.

Room schedule for any level, any zone

Room schedules are one of the most frequently requested deliverables in a BIM project — and one of the most tedious to maintain manually. The Nomic agent generates them on demand, straight from the IfcSpace entities in the model, with real areas and properties from the authoring tool.

  • Generate room schedules by building storey with name, number, and net area
  • Filter by space type, zone, or program category
  • Compare areas against the design program stored in the project space
Total area by space type, zone, or occupancy
02 / Area analysis

Total area by space type, zone, or occupancy

Go beyond a flat room list. Ask the agent to roll up total net area by space type, check that office area meets the program requirement, or calculate the ratio of net-to-gross area by floor. Every calculation comes from the model's own area quantities.

  • "Total net area by space type across all levels"
  • "Total office area on levels 3 through 6"
  • "List all spaces larger than 500 sq ft with their occupancy classification"
Check the model against the space program
03 / Program compliance

Check the model against the space program

Upload the space program document alongside the IFC and ask the agent to compare model areas against program targets. Surface spaces that are undersized, oversized, or missing entirely — early in design, when adjustments are inexpensive.

  • Compare model space areas against program targets by type
  • Flag spaces that fall outside acceptable area ranges
  • Export the comparison as a structured table for owner review
Outcomes

What teams get from this workflow

Room schedules in seconds

Generate a complete room schedule for any level or zone immediately — no schedule export, no spreadsheet pivot table.

Always current with the model

Rerun the schedule task after any model update and get the latest areas instantly, without manually refreshing exports.

Program compliance at a glance

Compare model areas against program targets without leaving the project space.

Questions about this ai for bim & ifc models workflow

Answers to common questions about this workflow.

What space data does Nomic extract from an IFC?

Nomic extracts IfcSpace entities including name, long name, number, building storey assignment, net area, gross area, and any custom property sets attached to spaces — occupancy classification, zone, program category, and more.

Can I generate a room schedule for the whole building or just one floor?

Both. Ask for a schedule for the whole building, a specific level, a zone, or any combination. For example: "Room schedule for levels 4 and 5, office spaces only."

Are the areas from the model or calculated by Nomic?

Areas come from the IFC model's quantity sets — the values the authoring tool computed. Nomic reads them directly rather than recalculating from geometry, so results are consistent with what the BIM tool reports.

Can I export the room schedule to Excel?

Yes. Ask the agent to export the schedule and it will produce a structured table you can download as Excel or CSV for use in owner presentations, permit applications, or cost modeling.
